Gabriel Mourao Second part Date & Time

 Gabriel Mourao

In the second half of "Date & Time" Kaye focuses a lot more on him growing up. With topics like his depression, times he was bullied when young, and his experiences with WWII. Through Kaye's life he has a seen many different perspectives because of his family being mixed with Jews and japaneses. Through those perspectives he has many stories to tell that is shown in his poetry.

For example the "teeth" text talks about the split in his family with two of his grandfathers fighting on two different sides in WWII. Kaye's japanese grandfather even has a strong line that shows the tension that Kaye had to experience first hand, "...how am I to forgive the men that served the trunk of my family tree and used its timber to warm the cheeks of their own children"(Kayle 53). This quote is directed to Kaye's grandfather that served America, because of this turmoil and many other factors you can start to see Kaye's struggle to find his identity.

Amongst all of that Kaye dealt with depression the growth and corruption of technology. All these developments shaped Kaye and he has stated many of his views in his poetry. Like how addicting and psychopathic technology is. How computers entrance our lives giving us images composed of 1's and 0's to paint an image, giving us distractions like social media, or giving us a new trend or interesting story to talk about.

Overall many things happened to Kaye and he got to see many different views. There is a lot to analyze about his poetry and there is a lot of experience, as well as, perspectives you can observe through the poetry. I believe that the main thing to take away from it all is Kaye's perspective on technology and your mental state. As Kaye has a non addictive view of technology and has gone through many things that normal teens go through these days, like an identity crisis, depression, parents divorcing, and much more. Through reading about his experience we might be able to find something to coupe with the many common problems people have in the modernized world.
